A small seal for what we have actually seen. Anyone can write about a place; we go. When you see this mark on a feature, a Napa Curator editor or staff member stayed, dined, or did the experience in person — within the last twelve months.
The seal, at its true size — twenty-two pixels of restraint. Trust signaled quietly, never shouted.
Visited in person
The mark is only awarded after a member of our editorial team has physically stayed, dined, or participated in the experience. Desk research, press trips by others, and reputation alone do not qualify — no matter how famous the name.
Hosted visits are always disclosed
Luxury properties often host the press. When that happens, we say so plainly on the feature itself.
Earned, never sold
A property may invite us or host a visit, but it cannot purchase the seal. Verification is an editorial decision, made by our editors alone, and it is never tied to advertising, partnership, or sponsorship.
Reviewed every year
Standards change; so do properties. Each verification is reviewed annually, and the seal is removed if the experience no longer meets it. A mark you see today reflects the last twelve months — not a reputation from a decade ago.
Honest about where we stand
No feature has earned the seal yet. Our editors' verification visits are underway — until we have walked the grounds ourselves, every feature is marked "Editor's Selection — verification visit pending." We would rather show the gap than pretend it isn't there.
