Johnstons of Elgin has woven cashmere and fine woollens in Scotland since 1797, and the Plain Cashmere Throw is the purest expression of the craft: nothing but fibre, weave, and dye. This one is 100 percent cashmere in Natural, an oatmeal tone that is warm without being yellow, shown at a generous 190 by 140 centimetres.
A throw either anchors a room or disappears into it, and the Plain Cashmere Throw does the former quietly. Oatmeal works across limestone, oak, and linen without argument, and pure cashmere drapes in a way blends never quite manage. It is the kind of textile you buy once and hand down.
Why it belongs
Wine country interiors live between stone and vine, and the palette runs warm: travertine, walnut, cream plaster. An oatmeal cashmere throw belongs draped over the foot of a guest room bed at a St. Helena estate, folded across a tasting room banquette for chilly harvest evenings, or within reach on a porch in Rutherford when the marine layer rolls in at dusk. It suits the valley the way a good second wine suits the table.
“Cashmere this soft earns its place on every chair in the house.”
